Glencoe is a magical place. A wild camping trip here was on my mind for over 10 years. That is a long gestation period by any standard. However it just did not come together. And I'm glad it happened in the summer of 2014.
After two days of 'Scottish' weather we were blessed with a beautiful sunset at GlenEtive area. I had seen this mountain (Buachaille Etive Mòr) photograph in a magazine in circa 2004. I felt almost certain that this must have been Cuiviénen Tolkien has written about. While actually standing at this oft-photographed location a decade later I was very sure that älvor was playing somewhere in the shadow of this giant. Surprisingly, I was the only person enjoying the place for sunrise and sunset for the next two days.
During my 5th trip in the area, in the winter of 2017, the conditions were just perfect. I was blessed with great light and this happens to be my favorite image made at this location. Is this an Icon? Yes. But some icons you have to have in your portfolio.
